Srinagar, Jan 17 (KNO): At least 10 percent of kids aged 14 to 18 years in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have never been enrolled for schooling.
Besides, over 89 percent of youth aged 14-18 were enrolled in formal education institutions while nearly 65 percent of youth were enrolled in government institutions.
According to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2023 report accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “In Anantnag, 89.9 percent of youth aged 14-18 were enrolled in some formal education institutions and 65.6 percent youth were enrolled in government institutions.”
The report further reads that at least 10.1 Percent youth were not enrolled anywhere, and this proportion was higher among 17-18-year-olds as compared to 14-16-year-olds.
Pertinently, ASER 2023 ‘Beyond Basics’ was released on Wednesday in New Delhi today—putting the spotlight on youth aged 14 to 18 years in rural India.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the ASER 2023 survey was conducted in Anantnag by volunteers from the Human Welfare Foundation.
The report states that among those aged 17-18 years old, at least 15 percent males were not enrolled in any formal education institutions as compared to 21.6 percent females.
Additionally, 1.2 percent of such youth were enrolled in some form of vocational training and 27.9 percent were engaged in some work (other than household work) for at least 15 days in the month prior to the survey—(KNO)
